My introduction
DREAM BIG!
Who is it that bends for the right to be heard?
When bending while talking who will feel the power of your words?
Birds fly south but will one day return
Because deep inside it is home that they yearn
Can you return to your past? Think slow
Although you know the answer is no
Tell your body to let your mind know
When it tries to travel to a place your body cannot go
The prisons of the mind trap thoughts in time
Like this sentence I write
The mind hands out sentences for life
A constant struggle and continual fight
Past, present, future which is right?
I struggle to comprehend
And to this poem I lend my pen
Listen, my friend!
Birds fly south but will one day return
Because deep inside it is home that they yearn
The warden of the past
Confines me to the past
And constantly reminds me of the past
The bars are “what if”
The door is “maybe I could have”
And the walls are “maybe I should have”
They check for contraband underneath my sleeve
The guards beat me when I try to leave.
I am a prisoner but not to the prison you might think
It is the prison behind the eyes that blink.
Only dreams are allowed to escape
But when dreams return
They have the key to unlock the gate.
Dream, dream, and dream some more
For it is only your dreams that can open the door
It is the future that unlocks the doors of the past
And the present that connects the two
Seeing as how my dreams have allowed me to escape
I wrote this poem for you
