We liked each other instantaneously.

"He's waiting in the shadows and will be there by the end of the year," so said my friend, Joyce, a self-described reader. I don't consult readers and psychics so I took Joyce's words as fun on that August 2007 night, as a group of sistas enjoyed dinner and shared our individual hopes and dreams for romance. The next month, an impromptu trip to New York from Florida set the stage for that prediction being fulfilled.
I joined BlackSingles in January 2007 after trying a number of other dating sites during the previous year. Idcook arrived on BSC a few months earlier. Having each discovered the message boards, we subsequently spotted each other. After a few months of curious fascination from the sidelines, in April 2007, we began to communicate with an occasional friendly email.
One day out of sheer boredom I booked a flight to New York to surprise my family. As we do on BSC, when I announced my plans, three New Yorkers raised their hand to greet me in their city. In the end, my schedule only worked out with meeting idcook. After several changes to our plan, we finally agreed that he would take the train to my hometown and join me at a family barbecue. The moment he stepped off that train from Manhattan, our eyes and smiles validated the attraction we felt in our cyber world. We liked each other instantaneously. We spent a fun-filled day with about 20 members of my extended family in the New York countryside. A favorite memory of that wondrous day is the quiet time of sitting on a hillside together, half-heartedly watching farm animals just below the hill as we began to reveal more intimate pieces of ourselves. Not only did we enjoy a compatible sense of humor, we discovered shared values and similar childhood experiences. Later that night as he boarded the train back to the city, we knew at the very least, that we would be best friends for life. We stayed in touch through email and phone calls.

As the December days began ticking away, I teased Joyce about her prediction and threatened to have her reader card revoked. "Oh, just be patient," she said, "The year is not over yet." Friend Toni kept saying, "It's idcook. I'm telling you. It's idcook." "No, I don't think so," I would sigh. While we chatted every day, we didn’t seem to be moving beyond more than friendship.

Just as I decided to take a break from hunting for Mr. Right-For-Me, idcook asks for a New Years Eve date. He'll fly to Orlando. I was ecstatic!
It was New Year’s Eve 2007, 6:00 p.m. when I stood face-to-face with him for the second time. We both knew without a doubt, this was more than a fellow BSCer’s friendly meet-n-greet. Joyce was right; he was definitely here by the end of the year…with 6 hours to spare. Our reunion date was dinner followed by the customary New Year’s celebratory fireworks. At midnight with the fireworks bursting into the air over our heads, we shared our first real kiss.

In September 2009, two years from the date we met, we decided to marry. He relocated to Florida, and on October 2, 2009, we vowed “forever” to each other in a beautiful garden ceremony.
